Occupational Therapy
What is Occupational Therapy?
At The Oxford Center, our occupational therapy program provides techniques and strategies for children and adults to acquire life skills. It focuses on sensory-motor, social, emotional, and cognitive functions. Our therapy model customizes programs based on your level and situation. With our synergistic approach, we work closely with other team members to maximize outcomes.
Our therapists work with patients to create personalized plans for developing or maintaining skills needed to support each individual patient’s needs, return to a previous level of functioning, increase independence, and reach personal recovery goals. The Oxford Center offers a Feeding Therapy program to helps individuals with sensory difficulties improve their ability to consume food and nutrients. Learn more about our program below.
The Oxford Center’s occupational therapy model combines conventional and non-conventional techniques to facilitate rehabilitation. Our approach focuses on retraining the body and brain in everyday situations. Occupational therapy sessions are one-on-one and allow our therapists to focus on your specific needs without interruption.

How Does It Work?
Occupational therapy is a type of therapy that helps individuals of all ages learn to cope with and complete everyday tasks. Occupational therapists focus on the whole individual by targeting challenges and areas of concern that may be physical, social, emotional, psychological, etc. This differs from other types of therapy that target just one area (I.e., physical therapy targets only physical movements).
Occupational therapists work one-on-one with patients to help them overcome challenges, establish helpful ways to adapt, find assistive devices that can be used, and learn how to complete tasks in everyday life. This type of therapy can help individuals of any age. It may help elderly patients learn how to complete everyday tasks independently, help children with special needs learn to feed themselves unaided, and much more.
What Do Sessions Look Like?
At The Oxford Center, our licensed and certified occupational therapists will work with patients one-on-one to create a personalized plan to guide the therapy and help patients reach their goals. Therapists will target the areas of the patient’s life that are proving challenging and help them learn ways to cope, adapt, and use assistive devices to complete challenges.
Our occupational therapists will continually assess and reassess each patient’s progress in their therapy to ensure they are meeting their goals and on track to improving their quality of life. During each session, our therapists will base the therapy on your own personal needs and interests.
Occupational therapy is usually covered by your insurance.
