What is Speech Therapy?
A speech-language pathologist (SLP), also known as a speech therapist, works to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorder in children and adults. SLPs treat many types of communication and swallowing problems. These problems can include speech sounds, expressive and receptive language, social communication, voice, fluency, and feeding and swallowing disorders. SLPs can treat a wide variety of people and disorders.
Speech therapists at The Oxford Center work with their patients to create a person-centered approach to target areas of concern and work with them towards improving their ability to effectively communicate their wants/needs, as well as swallowing abilities.
What Do Sessions Look Like?
Here at The Oxford Center, we take a synergistic approach to maximize outcomes. Our therapy models customize programs based on our patient’s level, individual situation, and needs. We work closely with our multidisciplinary team members to help our patients reach their goals.
When beginning speech therapy, patients will be evaluated by one of our licensed and certified speech therapists to assess the patient’s level, individual needs, goals, and situation. Following the evaluation period, the speech therapist will cultivate a personalized plan to help our patients achieve their goals.
Our speech therapist will work with our patients and their personalized plans to develop a therapy schedule based off their needs, as well as availability. The length and duration of each patient’s speech sessions may vary depending on their personalized plan. Check with your insurance company, as this service may be covered by insurance.
“The Oxford Center has been a transformative experience for my son. I am truly grateful for the positive impact they’ve had on his life.”
Occupational therapy is a type of therapy that helps individuals of all ages learn to cope with and complete everyday tasks. Occupational therapists focus on the whole individual by targeting challenges and areas of concern that may be physical, social, emotional, psychological, etc. This differs from other types of therapy that target just one area (I.e., physical therapy targets only physical movements).
Occupational therapists work one-on-one with patients to help them overcome challenges, establish helpful ways to adapt, find assistive devices that can be used, and learn how to complete tasks in everyday life. This type of therapy can help individuals of any age. It may help elderly patients learn how to complete everyday tasks independently, help children with special needs learn to feed themselves unaided, and much more.
What Do Sessions Look Like?
At The Oxford Center, our licensed and certified occupational therapists will work with patients one-on-one to create a personalized plan to guide the therapy and help patients reach their goals. Therapists will target the areas of the patient’s life that are proving challenging and help them learn ways to cope, adapt, and use assistive devices to complete challenges.
Our occupational therapists will continually assess and reassess each patient’s progress in their therapy to ensure they are meeting their goals and on track to improving their quality of life. During each session, our therapists will base the therapy on your own personal needs and interests.
Occupational therapy is usually covered by your insurance.

A neurological approach to physical therapy focuses on the functioning of the nervous system, including the brain and spinal cord, and how it affects movement and muscle function. This approach looks at the underlying causes of movement disorders and seeks to address them, rather than just treating the symptoms. In contrast, a traditional muscular approach to physical therapy focuses primarily on strengthening and stretching muscles to alleviate pain and improve mobility.
A neurological approach is more comprehensive and holistic, taking into account the whole person and their unique needs.
What Do Sessions Look Like?
Patients beginning physical therapy with The Oxford Center will come in for an initial assessment with one of our skilled physical therapists. In this initial assessment, we will work with the patient to pinpoint areas of concern and develop a plan to eliminate that concern. Our unique approach allows us to target the root cause of your symptoms, rather than just masking the symptom.
You will be paired with a Doctor of Physical Therapy or a Physical Therapy Assistant to work with you one-on-one during each of your sessions. If you believe that we could help you improve your quality of life, give us a call today!
“Super grateful for all the attention received in Oxford, our children have seen a lot of improvement and we definitely recommend this center, can’t wait to come back!”

Neurofeedback is a neurological therapy used to identify and correct areas of your brain that are not functioning properly. In a nutshell, neurofeedback is a way to condition and train the brain to optimize its function.
Our team at The Oxford Center will use a qEEG, or quantitative electroencephalogram, to observe and measure your brain waves. This test will reveal target areas of your brain that are hypo or hyperactive and will allow our team to design a personalized treatment plan tailored to your brain and your needs.
Using state-of-the-art equipment, we are then able to train your brain by presenting it with a view of its activity. It’s like giving the brain a mirror to see when it is operating at an optimal cognitive balance and when it deviates from that balance.
Neurofeedback simply measures what the brain is doing and then rewards it for positive behavior. A qEEG is used to measure brain waves and identify areas of the brain that may not be operating correctly.
When your brain is behaving ideally, the images will be vivid and the music audible. When your brain deviates from the ideal behavior, the images and the music fade. Seeking rewards, the brain will retrain itself to behave as we want it.
An EEG will be run during each session to track the brain’s growth and progress, and inform the areas that still need to be targeted in future sessions.
Neurofeedback is to be used in conjunction with other healing modalities and therapies to benefit many conditions. Sometimes the results can be quite spectacular.
What Do Sessions Look Like?
Patients will begin with a qEEg, which will be used to develop a plan for their therapy. For each session, you will sit back in a comfortable chair and watch relaxing, calming images on a screen and listen to pleasant music through headphones.
Following the first session, patients will be presented with a stimulus to help their brain learn how to self-regulate and function correctly. For example, a stimulus might be seeing a picture for some patients. If the brain is functioning correctly, the stimulus will appear clearly. If the brain begins to function incorrectly (either hypoactive or hyperactive) the image will begin to blur and your brain will automatically work to regulate itself to see the image clearly.
This teaches and conditions your brain in a natural way to self-regulate, cope, and manage correctly.

Oxford’s industry-leading model of intensive physical therapy combines conventional and non-conventional techniques to facilitate rehabilitation. Our approach focuses on retraining the body and brain from a neurological standpoint compared to the traditional muscular approach. Therapy sessions are one on one and last three hours. These long therapy periods allow our therapists to focus on your specific needs without interruption.
The Oxford physical therapy approach starts with the basics. Patients are trained to use muscles correctly, rather than compensating for muscle groups that are not functioning properly. Our goal goes beyond regaining mobility. We strive to help patients regain proper mobility, so there are no lurking issues that may cause problems in the future.
Originating in the Russian space program, the TheraSuit Method has had a fascinating journey to being able to help neurological disabilities.
The TheraSuit Method
The TheraSuit Method, one of the methods Oxford uses to maximize healing potential, involves an approach that looks at how the body responds to neurological inputs.
Intensive physical therapy, also known as intensive rehabilitation, is a type of physical therapy that involves a higher frequency of sessions and a more intense level of therapy than traditional physical therapy.
The main goal of intensive physical therapy is to achieve maximum functional improvement quickly. The treatment plan is designed to push the patient to their limits and maximize their potential for recovery. It may include exercises to improve strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination, as well as activities of daily living training, and education on injury prevention.
Physical therapists will use advanced techniques that have been proven to be effective in improving muscle strength, reducing spasticity, and enhancing the patient’s ability to perform daily activities.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, or HBOT, is a specialized form of medical treatment administered by delivering 100% pure oxygen to the body through increased atmospheric pressure greater than 1.3 ATA in an enclosed hard chamber.
At pressures greater than normal, the body can incorporate more oxygen into blood cells, blood plasma, cerebral-spinal fluid, and other bodily fluids. The increased oxygen absorption experienced during Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy significantly enhances the body’s ability to aid in its healing.
Though Hyperbarics has received a greater amount of attention in recent years, the therapy has been utilized for over 100 years.
Utilizing Only the Highest Quality Equipment
As with all of our therapies, Oxford only utilizes the highest quality hard-sided hyperbaric chambers in the industry. Our chambers have a clear exterior and provide the highest level of comfort.
Hard vs Soft Sided HBOT Chambers
Not all Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy equipment is created equally. Find out the difference between our hard-sided chambers and other soft-sided chambers.
Once a person is in the increased atmospheric pressure, the body responds by reducing inflammation. With the inflammation reduced, blood flow to cells increases, enhancing the delivery of oxygen to oxygen-deprived areas.
At this point, the body’s healing process accelerates.
The body’s natural healing mechanisms can now function efficiently because the damaged tissues are receiving more oxygen. Even when the blood supply has been compromised, tissues can still receive the healing benefits of oxygen from other body fluids and plasma in the surrounding area.
Hyperbaric Oxygenation
100% oxygen under pressure causes the oxygen to saturate the blood, diffusing into the blood plasma completely. This oxygenated plasma can travel past the restriction, diffusing up to 4 times further into the tissue. The pressurized environment helps to reduce swelling and discomfort while providing the body with at least ten times its normal supply of oxygen to help repair tissue damaged by the original occlusion or subsequent hypoxic condition.
Blood Vessel Regeneration
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) forces more oxygen into the tissue, encouraging the formation of new blood vessels. As these new blood vessels develop, the red blood cells start to flow, delivering even more oxygen to the affected area. This creates the optimal environment for the body’s natural healing processes to repair damaged tissue.
Normal Blood Flow
There is 21% oxygen in the air that we breathe, and our lungs transfer this oxygen to our red blood cells (via haemoglobin). These oxygen-filled red blood cells are carried around the body by the plasma (fluid), which travels through the blood vessels. The oxygen diffuses into the surrounding tissue ensuring that it is delivered to where it is needed most.
Restricted Blood Flow
When there is a restriction (occlusion) in blood flow due to surgery, illness, or injury, the red blood cells block the blood vessel and are unable to transfer oxygen to the cells on the other side of the occlusion. This causes swelling and starves the area of oxygen, causing hypoxia (a lack of oxygen), when this occurs the tissue begins to break down.
“Because of Oxford’s HBOT services, my blood issue with low platelets has stopped. Within a week of starting HBOT, they improved. I no longer need to receive blood transfusions at the hospital. I can do more because I’m not afraid of getting hurt or having internal bleeding. This is a blessing to my family’s peace of mind!”
