Halloween at The Oxford Center

Halloween at The Oxford Center was a blast this year, with a lineup of festivities that brought smiles to the faces of our ABA Academy kiddos and their families. From “Trick-or-Trinkets” to a thrilling Mario Kart race, it was a celebration to remember.

Our “Trick-or-Trinkets” activity was a special treat for our kiddos. Instead of traditional candy, they roamed the decorated hallways of The Oxford Center, receiving trinkets. It was a heartwarming sight as children’s faces lit up with joy and laughter while exploring and collecting stress balls, fidget toys, and other sensory-friendly surprises.

The Oxford Center Clinical Service Providers added a unique twist to Halloween by racing Mario Kart-style. Dressed in costumes, they raced around the track, much like the beloved characters from the game. It was a spirited competition that brought cheers from kids and families alike.

We aim to create unforgettable experiences for our ABA academy kiddos and their families. This year’s event was a day filled with laughter, excitement, and shared joy.

We’re grateful to all the participants, families, and staff members who made this Halloween celebration a memorable one. We look forward to more adventures and celebrations at The Oxford Center.

Understanding Food Sensitivities and their Impact on Your Health

Have you ever wondered how the food you consume can affect your overall health and well-being? Food is not just a source of energy; it plays a significant role in the complex web of interactions within our bodies. These sensitivities can have a profound impact on our health, especially when they go unnoticed or unaddressed.

Food sensitivities occur when our immune system responds negatively to certain foods or food components. Unlike food allergies, which produce immediate and often severe reactions, food sensitivities trigger a more subtle, chronic response. This immune response can lead to inflammation in the gut, a crucial area of our bodies responsible for various functions.

The Gut’s Vital Role

Our gut, also known as the gastrointestinal tract, is a central player in our overall health. This remarkable system has a multi-faceted job: breaking down food, absorbing essential nutrients, and distributing them throughout the body. A healthy gut also houses a substantial portion of our immune cells, which function as a protective barrier against harmful pathogens.

When the gut is compromised by inflammation, it can lead to a wide range of symptoms, including pain, fatigue, digestive issues, and skin reactions. Furthermore, if this inflammation persists, it can contribute to the development of chronic diseases, as mounting evidence suggests that many chronic conditions have a connection to gut health.

Identifying Your Food Triggers

If you suspect that certain foods are causing you discomfort, it’s crucial to consult with a healthcare professional to address your symptoms. Food sensitivities can be tricky to pinpoint, as they often manifest differently in everyone. Thankfully, there are tools available to help identify these sensitivities and improve your gut health.

One such tool is the Mediator Release Test (MRT), a patented blood test offered by Oxford Biomedical Technologies, Inc. This advanced test is designed to assess your body’s reactions to over 176 foods and food additives, helping to uncover which specific items are causing adverse reactions and symptoms. This invaluable information can provide critical insights into your gut health and dietary choices.

Guidance from a Functional Nutrition Therapy Practitioner

At The Oxford Center, we have a dedicated Functional Nutrition Therapy Practitioner, Nicole Cunningham, who is passionate about helping individuals understand the profound impact of their diet on their body and overall health. Nicole can guide you through the process of forming a healthy relationship with the food you eat, empowering you to make informed choices about what foods are best for your unique body and lifestyle.

It’s essential to remember that each person is unique, and what works for one may not work for another. However, with patience and persistence, you can explore ways to manage your food sensitivities and improve your overall well-being.

Learn More About the MRT Test

If you’re eager to learn more about the MRT test, including which food sensitivities can be tested, how the test works, what to expect during the testing process, and how to interpret the results, we invite you to take the next step. You can schedule a FREE discovery session by calling us at 248-486-3636 or filling out the form on our Contact Us page.

Your journey toward better understanding your food sensitivities and improving your gut health starts with taking that first step. We’re here to support you on your path to a healthier, more vibrant you.

“For 6 years I struggled with abdominal issues. I saw so many different doctors and they all said the same thing – take anti-gas pills, stool softeners, eat more salad, etc.. And then I met Nicole. I decided to start with the RESTART program (March 2023) and while detoxing my body of sugars and eating completely clean, we found out how sick I really was. She is the first person in 6 years to fully listen to my symptoms and my story, run tests and give me answers. I learned my body was not able to absorb nutrients properly, I have multiple food sensitivities, a gut fungal infection, and giardia parasites that made me gain 25 lbs out of nowhere. Since working with her and starting my healing protocol with supplements and diet adjustments, my abdominal issues have disappeared, and I am on my way to having a healthy body again! I cannot say enough great things about Nicole or put into words how thankful I am for her knowledge, help and guidance through my healing process.”

Halloween at The Oxford Center

Halloween at The Oxford Center is a time of enchantment and celebration where staff and children alike are encouraged to let their imaginations run wild and don their most creative costumes. The day’s highlight is our “Trick or Trinket” event, spanning the entire building and offering a captivating adventure for the kids. We emphasize the importance of customs and encourage parents to ensure their children are dressed for this memorable holiday. Together, we aim to create unforgettable memories and make this Halloween the best day for our young participants.

Blue Buckets

The Oxford Center is championing inclusivity this Halloween by using blue Halloween buckets as symbols of awareness for autism. When you spot a child with a blue bucket, it’s a subtle signal that they may be autistic, allowing those handing out treats to be more understanding and accommodating. The Oxford team has come together to collect over 90 blue buckets, creating a heartwarming Halloween extravaganza for the kids in our ABA program. This initiative signifies not only awareness but a united community that believes every child, regardless of their unique needs, deserves a magical Halloween.

Let’s make this Halloween a special and inclusive celebration for all children by embracing every child so they can participate and enjoy the festivities.

ABA Field Trip to Spicer’s Orchard

Last week, our ABA academy program took the kids to Spicer’s Orchard, and it was a day filled with pure autumn magic. Our little adventurers hopped on a rustic wagon ride through the pumpkin fields. Their faces lit up as they picked the perfect pumpkins from the patch, each one a treasure to take home. After the pumpkin-picking excitement, we all gathered around picnic tables to savor fresh apple cider and warm donuts, filling the crisp autumn air with laughter and joy. It was a day of adventure, connection, and cherished memories that will warm our hearts throughout the fall season.

Mental Health Neurofeedback

As the seasons change, many struggle with mental health, due to the transitions from the bright, warm seasons to colder, darker ones like winter. At The Oxford Center, we’re redefining mental health by recognizing that it’s a unique journey for everyone. We offer innovative therapies like Neurofeedback, which can be personalized to your specific needs.

If you or someone you know is facing mental health challenges, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. Taking that step is a brave and crucial move, and we’re here to support you on your path to a healthier, happier, and more fulfilling life.

Neurofeedback is a non-invasive therapy that helps regulate and optimize brain functions. It’s like having a personal trainer for your brain, offering real-time feedback to help you understand and control your brain’s responses. This therapy can be particularly beneficial for anxiety and stress management, focus improvement, sleep disorders, mood regulation, and enhancing cognitive performance. Your well-being is our utmost priority at The Oxford Center, and we’re here to guide you in redefining your journey to well-being.

Don’t hesitate to reach out if you’re in need of support. 248-486-3636

The Power of Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy: A Gentle Healing Approach

Dr. Suma Thomas, Our OMT Specialist

Dr. Suma Thomas, our board-certified osteopathic physician with profound expertise in Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy (OMT), endeavors to provide patients with an integrated, gentle, and holistic approach to healthcare.

The Roots of OMT

Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy traces its origins to the late 19th century, a revolutionary concept birthed by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still.

At its core, OMT champions the philosophy that the human body is intricately linked, with each system influencing the others. Furthermore, this therapeutic approach puts special emphasis on the musculoskeletal system, understanding its pivotal role in safeguarding and restoring overall health.

Unlocking the Wonders of Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy

As you consider integrating OMT into your healthcare plan, here’s a deeper exploration into its key facets:

  1. Holistic Vision: OMT takes a step back from symptomatic treatment, choosing instead to view the body as a coherent whole. This perspective allows for a comprehensive understanding of how the musculoskeletal system intertwines with one’s broader well-being.
  2. The Art of Gentle Healing: Under the skilled hands of Dr. Thomas, patients experience the subtlety of OMT techniques. From precise stretches to calibrated pressures and resistances, these methods stand out for those keen on non-invasive avenues to health.
  3. Tailored to You: OMT is far from a one-size-fits-all remedy. Each session is meticulously curated based on the patient’s distinctive needs and aspirations. This customization ensures that every individual receives the exact care they require for optimal health outcomes.
  4. A Panacea of Possibilities: Beyond mere pain alleviation, OMT extends its reach to a plethora of conditions. It offers promising avenues for issues like asthma, digestive disorders, and many more, highlighting its versatility as a therapeutic tool.
  5. Beyond Just Relief: OMT’s scope is not limited to symptom relief. Additionally, it actively works towards enhancing mobility, reducing discomfort, and fostering a state of overall physical and mental well-being.

Embarking on Your OMT Journey

Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy stands as a beacon for those seeking a harmonious blend of gentleness and efficacy in healthcare. If you find yourself grappling with persistent pain or are simply in pursuit of elevated health and vitality, OMT emerges as a compelling alternative.

Dr. Suma Thomas, with her vast experience and passion for osteopathy, is the perfect guide for those eager to embrace OMT’s myriad benefits. Should you consider this therapeutic approach, a consultation with her at The Oxford Center can illuminate its transformative potential. With OMT, a rejuvenated, holistic, and healthier version of you might be just around the corner.

Testimonial

“My daughter and I both see Dr. Thomas regularly for OMT and it has made such a difference. I have struggled with neck and back pain for years that causes numbness and tingling down my arms to my fingertips and across my face. Since seeing Dr. Thomas, my pain, numbness, and tingling have significantly decreased. My daughter is Autistic and has Cerebral Palsy. She started grinding her teeth a few months ago and we noticed that it was happening more and more. We also started seeing odd sideways jaw movements. We decided to take her to see Dr. Thomas who found that her jaw was misaligned. After OMT, the teeth grinding, and odd jaw movements stopped for weeks. We’re incredibly happy with the progress that we have both made with OMT!”
